2 Months

Our little guy is 2 months old! As every parent says, time flies. That is an understatement.

I was absolutely dreading his check-up because of THE SHOTS! In fact, I cried with him. Honestly. When he was getting his shots I was strong, but as soon as the nurse left the room I just held him and tears welled in my eyes. Poor guy! There is nothing worse than seeing your child in pain. Now he is sound asleep.

Our little lightweight came in at 11 pounds even, and almost 23 inches. That puts him in the 25th% for his weight and 50%th for his height. His head is in the 25% too. He's just our little muffin!

He loves to smile. He loves to have his diaper changed. He loves Daddy's voice, always turning his head toward him when he hears it. He loves bath time. He loves the sling. He loves to be held out so he can see what's going on. He loves to mimic mom and dad. He loves white noise. He loves the swing. He loves his binky. He loves to sleep near mom and dad. He loves to talk.

He hates his reflux medicine. He hates the car. He hates waiting to eat. He hates getting the boogers suctioned out of his nose.

The good far outweigh the bad and that's all we can ask for!

And now for your viewing pleasure:

Grateful

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to tag along with my hubby on yet another business trip. This time it was only a short car ride down to Chicago.

I absolutely LOVE big cities. The culture. The noise. The high rises. The sound of the subway/El train. The food. The people watching. The street performers. The walking. The shopping!! I could go on and on.

However, there is one thing that I HATE to see and that is a homeless person. It literally breaks my heart in two. I think it touches me even more so now that I am a mother and I think to myself," He is a son or daughter of someone. Surely there is some family member who can help."

I feel a tremendous sense of duty to help, but what can I really do to make a difference? Some people say "They did it to themselves" or "If you give them money they'll just spend it on drugs, cigarettes, or alcohol" so why even bother? Yes, they may have made bad choices and "done it to themselves" or they may spend the money on something other than food or shelter, but who am I to judge?

Don't get me wrong, I do think that with all the time they are sitting in despair on a street corner, they could be using that time to better themselves and do something to help get out of their horrible situation. I believe in the American Dream and know that hard work and perseverance pay off.

Anyway, as Carson and I strolled along in the beautiful weather, we saw several homeless people. Their signs had a familiar tone. They referred to the economy and how they lost their job/house/car. One sign even said," I'm not a bad guy, I just made poor decisions and I'm hungry." It made me realize that with the state of the economy, if you have job, you are rich.

Oh how that made me grateful for our employment, home and food. Sometimes I find myself thinking about everything that I DON'T have, but this reminded me of the many blessings I DO have.

I'll admit, I get caught up in my wants, but at the end of the day, I already have everything I need. I have a loving husband and a sweet baby boy. I have a loving Heavenly Father. I have a strong conviction to do what's right and to do my best. What more does a girl need?

I am grateful.

Handsome Devil

Yes, its true this little angel above* had a ginormous blowout yesterday morning and then last night when I was changing his poopy diaper- he had JUST POOPED a ton- he pooped on me two more times! To top it off he peed on me too. At least we know his plumbing works well.

Oh the joys of parenthood!

I'm really excited because last night he successfully took a bottle from Joel. Maybe I can escape the house for a little more than 2 hours every once in a while!

Oh, and he's been smiling for almost two weeks now! It melts my heart when he smiles becuase he has been quite sad at times due to his tummy problems. I now know that he is happy and he doesn't hate us. Infact, I think he really likes us.

Here and There...

& Everywhere!

Joel had the opportunity to do interviews for Kohls at BYU in the middle of February and I was lucky enough to tag along! Carson was just 4 weeks old (which I got some strange comments from random people) but he was a gem on the plane. If he started to get fussy I just hooked him up to Mommy's milk factory and he was content! Since he was still so young, we didn't venture out and do a ton, but it was a nice trip to see family and surprise Grandma O'Neill!!

We returned home for 4 days and then were off to Hawaii with my family!! We spent 11 hours on a plane to get there but it was so worth it- minus the rain and wind! We stayed at the gorgeous Ko Olina Beach Club on Oahu. Marriott does such an awesome job with all of their properties. We have been lucky enough to stay at several different Marriott properties over the years and all of them have been perfect!

While we were there, we drove up to the North Shore to see the huge waves that you hear about (funny story about this), hit up the PCC, went to Pearl Harbor, snorkeled at Hanauma Bay, and strolled around Waikiki. Joel took Makenna on a little date to whale watch and swim with wild dolphins since I have a 7 week old who won't take a bottle yet! :) Joel's speed on vacations is fast-forward and mine is more like idle mode, so he got up early most mornings and went and saw/did things while Carson and I vegged at the hotel. We joined him around 1 everyday for some family time!

The funny story...
Joel loves to do "adventurous" things and is really a kid at heart! The big waves were too much for him to handle- he wanted to play in them! The red flags were up warning about the strong current and large waves, but that didn't stop him. In fact, I think it became even more enticing because it was more of a challenge. He decided to go bodysurfing and play with the big boys (surfers and wind surfers) and was the only one without "gear" in the water. He went out there all cool and them BAM!! He was getting thrown down and tossed around! It was so funny to watch and apparently others on the beach thought so too! Not five minutes in to his fun, an ATV with a life guard called him out of the water and basically told him it's way too dangerous to be out there without a board of some sort. How the life guard could tell Joel wasn't a local is beyond me I think it may have something to do with his glowing white skin!

Anyway, we were In Hawaii 6 days and then headed to Utah AGAIN for a mini-reunion! It has been several years- alomost 4- since all my siblings and their spouses and kids have been together. The original plan was for all of us to go to Hawaii but jobs and new babies prevented some from being able to go. The goal was to get all of us together for a family picture, which happened Friday. I saw some proofs and am excited to see them all!

While in Utah we also blessed Carson, Hudson (Josh and Heather's baby boy), and Weston (Ryan and Angelica's baby boy). Joel gave a sweet blessing and did a fabulous job keeping his thoughts clear as Carson cried through most of it. I'm so grateful that Joel is a worthy priesthood holder!

We left SLC Sunday and in typical fashion were welcomed by March Milwaukee snow! We are glad to be back and looking forward to getting into some sort of routine again but had such a great time that we are already planning our next trip.

Call me...

Oh wait, my cell phone broke the night before we left for Hawaii. SPLAT. KERPLUNK. DONE. The screen just died. Sad day.

I'm lost without it. I need your phone numbers. Please email them to me. Even if you think I had your number memorized, I didn't, so please stop flattering yourself and just send me the email!

Thank you!
